In Darkwatch you play the part of Jericho Cross, a cowboy-turned-vampire. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, it is. The only problem is the developer, High Moon Studios, didn't put too much into this game to separate it from the slew of other first-person shooters currently flooding the gaming market, especially on the Xbox. This is one of the first games I've played that has included demons, zombies and other hellspawn that did not get a single flinch out of me.
There are no scary moments in the game...it is just killing without mercy and making small, overall insignificant decisions determining whether your character will end up evil or good. By the third "tormented soul" that I oh-so-selfishly harvested to make my character stronger, I just did not really care anymore. The story should not even be considered that. You move from area to area, clearing out enemies with a multitude of guns, and that triggers a cutscene.
While the single player game may not be all that (few first-person shooter stories are), the game makes up what it loses with the multiplayer. The game has a fast frame rate ala Quake, and each of the weapons has a unique secondary melee attack, usually involving something very sharp on the non-shooting end of the gun. The game, graphically, is very impressive, comparable to the launch titles on the Xbox 360.
So if you're looking for a first-person shooter where you pretty much run around killing things without mercy, for no real reason, then this is definitely a game for you. Otherwise, for you first-person shooter freaks out there, stick with Halo or Killzone. |

DarkWatch is, at least to me, an intense first-person shooter action video game with a western/fantasy/horror setting. You play Jericho Cross, a rugged outlaw who robs the wrong train that is owned by a group that hunt various demons and other threats to humanity. When he robs the train he is bitten by a powerful vampire, that eventually gives him various powers. You will fight demons, banchees, vampires, possibly an angel depending if you choose good or bad, and various other hideous monsters.
The action is intense, although at times repetitive like most FPS games get, the monsters aren't scary but are fun and challenging to kill, the visuals are gothic and great and the music is desent. It to me is a very good game with intense combat. |
